The International Gastronomical and Musical Festival "Noches de Ajijic" debuting 5th of June till Monday 8th.

 

The lake of Chapala is the largest natural reservoir of Mexico and certainly one of the most beautiful in the country. Situated at 1525 meters high and surrounded by mountains, it has an approximate area of 114,659 hectares and a capacity of 8 000 million cubic meters, in addition to being the main source of drinking water supply for the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, second biggest city of Mexico.

The municipality of Chapala, on the northern shore of the lake is a tourism area at only 45 minutes from Guadalajara, 20 minutes from the international airport and has a population of almost 50 000 inhabitants among which 15 000 thousand represent the foreign community, one of the largest in the country. This community is composed by a majority of retirees with plenty of free time, high purchasing power and many intellectuals, artists, personalities who have chose Chapala for the quality of life and best climate of all Mexico.

Ajijic is a picturesque village of pre-Hispanic origin that is characterized by its tranquillity and beautiful landscapes, with an important historical legacy of both the sites and monuments, for the culture of its inhabitants rich in indigenous areas, both colonial and contemporary. It also has a diverse tourism growth.

The International Gastronomical and Musical Festival "Noches de Ajijic" (Nights of Ajijic) represents a cultural project meant to promote Ajijic and its region. Some of the best restaurants have invited international and national chefs of all nationalities and will offer high ranking menus at very affordable prices. Ajijic will host the Festival starting Friday 5th till Monday 8th of June.

The main aspects of the festival are:

Guest chefs in 7 different restaurants : Jardin de Ninette, La Propela-Barco, La Gasconade, Los Telares, La Tasca, Number 4, La Taverna dei Quattro Mori lunch and dinner. Make reservations by phone.

The Art walk in downtown Ajijic Saturday and Sunday starting 12PM

Free activities on the malecon with traditional dance and music in the Agora from Friday to Sunday starting 12PM

Wine and tequila tastings on the malecon every day at 01PM

Gastronomical fair in the malecon everyday starting 12PM

Concert of Paco Renteria, Saturday 6th of June, 7PM in the malecon (150$ entree)

Concert of 3 D' Café, salsa and Cuban night with 15 dancers, Sunday 7th of June, 7PM in the malecon (150$ entree)

La Gran Noche del Chef, Monday 8th of June in the cultural centre of Chapala (Old train station). This exceptional dinner will be organized by Lupita Cruz and chef Antoine Dansac around Pre-Hispanic dishes and flavours. Roberto Cerda and Ernesto Cano will perform their Pre-Hispanic musical show. Cost 550$, tickets in “Jardin de Ninette”. Limited seating...
